SPRING EDITION
Autumn gives evocative lights and colours, what about bright spring colours?
The Basilicata Bike Trail Spring Edition is a sort of “satellite” event, shorter and more immediate than the October edition: it explores in greater depth the incredibly suggestive Lucanian badlands. Erosion has created these characteristic moonscapes in constant mutation, forming pyramids and sculptures of clay in barren tones, enriched with the bright green of grass and dotted with typical spring blooms.
The Spring Edition explores in depth this vast portion of territory, located in the south-eastern part of the region.
We will be ready to welcome you starting on 25th April at Casata del Lago holiday fam, a magnificent location on the banks of the Monte Cotugno dam (the largest rammed-earth reservoir in Europe), in the municipality of Senise: it will be a beautiful village, and you will be able to decide whether to pitch your tent or stay in the structure.
The adventure starts on 26th April 2024, proceeding on mixed roads (asphalt, dirt, fields) to discover timeless landscapes and villages, such as Aliano, described by Carlo Levi in “Cristo si è fermato a Eboli”, Craco the ghost town, and Tursi the Arab town. We will work until the end to define the most spectacular tracks ever.
You will have the entire weekend to enjoy this adventure, by choosing between two round trips:
The percentages say that for 58 per cent of the route you will be riding on paved roads. Apparently, once they used to be paved. In any case, BBT participants teach us that the perceived dirt percentage is greater than declared. Forgotten provincial roads, where vegetation takes back its space and nature will be the only witness to your passage: we will project you into a new space-time dimension, which we call 'poor man's gravel'.
